A Transportation Management Account, like a Flexible Spending Account, is a benefit program that increases your employees’ purchasing power at little or no cost to you. Transit & Parking is a provision of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC), Section 132 (f) that permits an employer to subsidize employees’ cost of commuting to work by transit. It also allows employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay for transit passes.
All types of transit services are covered. Services include publicly or privately owned or operated bus, rail, subway, ferry, subscription bus, shuttle bus, and commuter highway vehicles under contract. Transportation in a commuter highway vehicle (vanpool) which is provided “by and for“ (on behalf of) the employer is also eligible for the Transportation Commute Benefit.
